Yup, as of today, friday the 30th of October, I'm 24 years old. It's my birthday ! And boy am I excited. I get to go see Where the Wild Things Are, and then get taken to the factory! I'm excited excited. They have red...velvet...cheesecake *dies in anticipation*

It's finally getting cold here again, thank GOD! Secret Wars should be back up again soon, and 1DF should be starting any day now! Also...I might have jury duty in two weeks...which...I'll just die, let's put it that way. But, I get to go see for new years for 3 weeks, which I'm stoked about! I miss him so!

Without further ado:
1. Who are you?
I am EE, empy...a select few may call me by my real name ^_~ I am a recent college graduate from Humboldt State University with a degree in Theatre, emphasis in playwrighting, and a minor in studio art.

2. What is your artistic passion?
Is to write novels with subtle religious undertones, and screenplays with deep thought questions embedded that don't smack you in the face, but rather let you develope intellectual thought and progress on your own.

3. Why did you get into art?
I have been drawing since I was very young. My earliest recollection of it was when my mother was reading me a children's story and I said, "Mommy, who does that?" pointing to the book, she told me it was the author, without realizing I was actually pointing to the pictures in the book. Looking to the front, she said they were the illustrator and I smiled, "I want to be that." Since then, I have realized that that is still what I want, to be an illustrator, but that it has taken on an entirely different meaning for me. To illustrate is to paint a picture, with medium or words, but to tell a story, to share a moment, that is what I do.

4. How do you inspire yourself
Inspiration comes and goes, but it is my belief that my art is a gift, that keeps me going. That I have what others may not, and that I should not let it go to waste. Practice makes perfect, and perfection is inspiring.

5. Where would you like to see yourself in 5 years.
Five years...I would like to be married to the love of my life , have published my novel, sold my screenplay and watched it come to life on the big screen, and have a steady job at home, being paid to write. Perhaps have finally helped my mother write and illustrate her children's novel. If not hers, than my aunt and uncle's.

Alright...I don't often rant, but I feel I need to this time. Please tell me what you honestly think, as that is the only way I will improve as an artist.

I had this conversation earlier today while applying in a FREEBIE artshop on my newest avatar website. That means they list artists that are willing to do art for free, for those who ask, totally artist's choice etc. I will not name or show the other artists or their art, but let me tell you, I was on par or better, in my opinion...

Tell me if you agree?

Them: Hrm. I don't know. Your quality isn't quite up to par with what I'd like to see. I'm wondering though. What program do you use?

Me: You're serious? I'd say I'm fairly on par with the rest of the examples of artists on your front page...they are freebies, after all. But if you must, here is my deviantart gallery. (and I linked them)

Them: Yes I'm totally serious. Your anatomy really isn't altogether that great. Other than that your drawings fine really.
I'm still unsure though.
Because some of your examples are fine, some of them I don't like at all, and I'm including the one's in your DA.
You have some inconsistency in your style in that way and that is also another reason for me to lean towards not accepting you.
I don't care if their freebies or not. I'm still looking to stick to a certain amount of quality. Even with what we have we haven't gotten more than two or three customers since we opened about a month and half ago. Obviously bringing in lower quality artists isn't going to help that at all.

Me: For the most part, my anatomy is fine. "Inconsistency" is called a range in style. I don't know why you haven't had customers, but maybe it's because no one liked the style of art that was offered. Whether you "like" my art or not, people like variety. But, if you still don't like me, that's fine. I only applied on a whim.
Let me know what you decide.

Them: Your anatomy is not fine and trust me, I know. Especially with your heads. Your heads are very strangely shaped often times.
Oh and please. I'm not talking about variety in style at all. I'm talking about within pieces that seem to be of the same style, where the QUALITY of it differs in a way I would not expect of somebody who has a developed style at all.
and I think at this point I'm going to say no.
So thanks for your time, but your art simply isn't up to par with what I'd like to see.



Needless to say...I'm miffed.
